 Factor the number 6:

  8: 2 x 4 

 

When your asked to factor, what you are really being asked is. 

 

• What numbers were multiplied to make 8? 

      

               (2x + 8)

               (2x + 2x 4)                (x+4)

    

           

                  common  number so remove it

 

 example (2x+6)          2x + 2x3

                                   = 2 (x+3)
