Unit Reflection 

 

Learning about quadratics was a new experience for me because I didn't know what parabola or had a clue of what the quadratic formula was. When we were introduced to this unit "Quadratics" I found this unit very useless and came across this conclusion that I would never use the information in my life after passing this class however, I got to learn how quadratics can be used in real life and how it can easily be connected to real life experiences. When we learned about parabolas in grade 9, I didn’t know what parabolas were and I didn't notice that parabolas are everywhere. Learning about the transformation, graphing vertex form, and finding equation was very easy. Soon, we were introduced to different ways of factoring quadratic equations. I learned the basic concepts of factoring but I struggled at choosing a specific method of factoring for certain quadratic equations. As we passed onto learning about types of equation like vertex form, factor form and standard form. We learned how to find the axis of symmetry (x- co-ordinate in the vertex), the optimal value that is the y co-ordinate in the vertex. As we went through the unit, the lessons got more challenging. That's where I struggled but going in for extra help and asking questions in class helped. This assessment shows my weakness and strengths in this unit called "Quadratics". I was proud of getting a good mark in communication however, I did not see it coming and did not expect a level 4. Application is where i struggle a lot like for example word problems , word problems is definitely where i need to practice. Through this assesment it reflects my understanding of expanding polynomials and also different ways of factoring and which specific factoring operation is to be used. I was proud the knowledge/understanding and communication part of the test. But, the I greatly need help in the application section of the assesment.
